Everyone who like games must've been known what DoTa is. But I will explain anyhow about DoTa. So basically, DoTa is a online games based on Warcraft III that allows player to pick one Hero and than battle it between players. The player win if he or she can beat the other player until their main base is destroyed. This game was popular ever since it was first introduced to public. And now there gonna be DoTa 2. Yayyyy!! I can show you the official video for DoTa 2.
How does DoTa 2 link with social media marketing? First, it is a popular game. If you look at the video on Youtube, there were many people are watching the video of a battle in DoTa 2. Next, this is nice timing for every company to sponsor this event. There are many company that willing to sponsor for their team in the DoTa 2 tournament. If someone interested in DoTa 2, you can access this link. Company like Gigabyte, Razer and other major electronic brands are willing to sponsored in a great amount of money. The prize for the winning team in the tournament equals to $ 1 million! Last, DoTa promote themselves only via video streaming and the great Youtube. It also has Facebook page and Twitter page. This prove that marketing is improvising through SM with games as their main core as games become a trend in this modern society. Many people are like to enter games as a market for their product. Gaming console, gaming keyboard, mouse and all other equipments that had been produced is the prove that gaming is becoming main attraction to marketing. Since online games related to social media, so it is a great aspect to be viewed. What do you think? Is online games will be connected to social media? Or it will be a stand alone? And what are the impact for marketing?
I would think that online gaming and SM would naturally go together. It's like a match made in heaven. @Hubba, could you check the bible and let us know.
ReplyDeleteSM will definitely in my view enhance the awareness of a contest like this. I am not a fan of games in general (not because I don't like them, just because I don't have the time to play them) ad therefore something like this would probably be the last thing I would search for on YouTube or FB, however, the market for which these games are designed, will definitely be very active on YT and FB when info is released. The marketer is however faced with the decision of whether they want to try and reach consumers such as me, or whether they want to just focus purely on their core target. If the want to expand to people like me, this will not work.

I also agree with you. When I was studying in the bachelor I was playing DoTa so I know a little bit of information regarding the games and how it would affect the marketing strategies. Apparently, the strategy would only focused on the designated target market. However like what you said, the 'don't have time' part, don't mean you not like them would you? If only marketers could develop some strategies regarding this opportunity.
ReplyDeleteI don't know a lot about gaming but i would image the SM possibilities would be incredible. Gaming is an industry where peer opinions and recommendations would be highly effective and spread quickly. Gamers are passionate and loyal and very vocal about their opinions on social media so communication would be very insightful for marketers to engage in and better target their market.
ReplyDeleteOMG DOTA!!! I was addicted a while BACK! NOW DOTA 2! Interesting! Like Ross mentioned, online games goes along with SM. It is quiet important that gaming companies uses SM to capture its market forming communities and fan pages. WOM and recommendations is extremely important in gaming, where many online gamers starts to play certain games from peers recommendations. Like Craig said, gamers are very loyal and always express their opinions. Especially in updating and providing new patches and game updates, SM would be a powerful tool to allow co-creation with the gaming companies, allowing them to improve according to gamers needs.
ReplyDelete@ craig: Yup. When gamers already into a games they like, they will do everything they need to conquer that game and they will brag about the game in online and SM.
ReplyDelete@ chun: agree! SM and online games is one unity after all right? there will be a need that both will cover for each other
Great work, Chris... some excellent discussion being generated here. Keep up the good work!
